Module # 2 Tableau and Geographic map

Map of Hospitals in the United States and its Territories

1) For this week's assignment I was tasked to find a database I found interesting using Google Table and create a map out of it using Tableau. This is the first time I have ever used or heard of the app, but it was surprisingly easy to use. I downloaded a hospital database that I found interesting to a Google Drive, which I was then able to access through Tableau. Once the data was connected, I was able to reclassify some data source field to their proper classification, which then allowed me to directly put them onto a map. I was surprisingly able to do this with multiple fields, but chose the most detailed one for this assignment.

2) The Map created:
This map shows the locations for hospitals in the United States and its territories. Screenshot via my computer.

3) Some geographic elements that would make this map more communicative would be polygons or areas and a color hierarchy, and cutting the map itself to fit more closely together. Cutting the map would allow the view to ignore the wide stretches of ocean that disconnects the interest points. Shrinking the size of Alaska and blowing up the size of the territories appropriately would also help to communicate the map better. A color hierarchy of the areas would also help to communicate the density of the hospitals in the areas. As it is right now, there are too many points on the map. Which makes it ok to read, but not a clear as it could be.
